How Acomplia works. Long-term Weight Loss with Acomplia
Acomplia prevents the brain from experiencing the satisfaction of a pleasurable activity (eating or smoking). It does this simply by preventing the EC substance from attaching to and stimulating the brain cells.
Recent reports from researchers indicate that Acomplia with its active component Rimonabant can assist with long-term weight loss, up to two years. Studies revealed that patients taking Acomplia for more than two years experienced a steady loss of 16 pounds. More than one third of study participants lost 10% of their excess weight. It was also indicated that Acomplia assisted in the lowering of HDLs ("bad" cholesterol), increased LDLs ("good" cholesterol) and may be able to be used to help overcome drug and alcohol addiction.
Acomplia is also a safe and effective weight loss drug for obese or overweight patients with other risk factors such as type 2 diabetes or dyslipidaemia - see the Body Mass Index for the definitions of what constitutes overweight or obese. In particular, Acomplia reduces the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. It can also be used as an aid to quit smoking.
Although Acomplia is a well-known name in Europe, the FDA office in charge of approving proposed medication names has decided to market Acomplia in the U.S. as Zimulti. This is because the FDA felt that the name Acomplia may be misleading to consumers, in that it may indicate that the patient would accomplish their weight loss goals.
